Audiometry Assessments

Altaira Allied Health provides professional audiometry assessments as part of our comprehensive Work Health and Safety (WHS) Occupational Health services. Our assessments support hearing conservation, early identification of hearing loss, and compliance with workplace health obligations across a wide range of industries.

Delivered within our purpose-built clinical environment or integrated into broader workplace assessment programs, audiometry testing helps employers protect worker safety while supporting long-term workforce health and productivity.

What Is an Audiometry Assessment?

An audiometry assessment measures a person’s hearing thresholds across a range of sound frequencies. It provides an objective evaluation of hearing capacity and assists in identifying early indicators of noise-induced or work-related hearing loss, particularly in environments where communication, situational awareness, and safety are critical.

How the Assessment Is Conducted

Audiometry testing is completed in a quiet room using calibrated equipment and approved clinical headphones to ensure accurate and reliable results.

All assessments are conducted using state-of-the-art Interacoustics AS608B screening audiometers, delivering high-precision measurement, consistency, and compliance with occupational health and hearing conservation standards.

The assessment involves:

  • Single-frequency tones presented to each ear separately through headphones
  • Test frequencies typically including 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 kHz
  • Gradual variation of sound intensity to determine the lowest audible threshold
  • Worker response via button press or hand raise
  • Extraction and plotting of data to map hearing thresholds across frequencies

Understanding the Results

Audiometric data is reviewed across key frequencies and assessed against expected hearing thresholds. Difficulty detecting certain frequencies at higher decibel (dB) levels may indicate the presence of hearing loss.

Accurate audiometric testing supports correct interpretation of findings and appropriate diagnosis of hearing thresholds. Results can inform workplace controls, hearing protection strategies, and ongoing hearing conservation programs.

Who Conducts the Assessment

Audiometry testing is conducted by appropriately qualified professionals in accordance with industry requirements. Officially, audiometry assessments may be completed by Audiologists, Audiometrists, or Occupational Health professionals with recognised audiometry training.

At Altaira Allied Health, assessments are delivered by trained Physiotherapists who are qualified to operate audiometry equipment, interpret results, and provide clinically sound, workplace-relevant reporting.
