Learn more about Zaid in this Q & A!
How did you get into your chosen field?
I’ve always been passionate about sports, especially tennis, and I know firsthand the frustration of being sidelined by injury. That personal experience inspired me to help others get back to doing what brings them joy.
What are your qualifications and experiences working in allied health?
I hold a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and a Bachelor of Sports Science.
I’ve been a physiotherapist for six years, working primarily in private practice clinics where I help people recover from injuries and return to their favourite activities.
I’ve had the privilege of working with a variety of state league sporting clubs, including:
- Kalamunda Eastern Suns – NBL1 West
- Southside Demons – WA Netball League
- Western Roar – WA Netball League
I’ve also supported athletes in CrossFit gyms, amateur football, and rugby clubs.
Outside of sports and musculoskeletal work, I have worked with Multiple Sclerosis Western Australia, providing rehabilitation and support to people living with neurological conditions.
How do you help people achieve their goals?
I empower people to address their pain or movement issues and give them a structured, personalised plan to not only get back to their chosen activity, but to stay there long-term.
What is one thing you wish everyone knew about physiotherapy?
Your mentality can shape your recovery. If you believe you can improve, you’re already halfway there!
What is your approach to helping clients?
I begin by identifying the source of a client’s problem; whether it’s pain or a movement restriction. Using targeted physiotherapy techniques, I help them feel better, then uncover the contributing factors and create a personalised pathway to address the cause. This could mean helping a senior regain mobility after a joint replacement, or guiding a younger athlete back to competition after injury.
What is your most rewarding client success story?
Recovering from major surgery, such as ACL reconstruction or joint replacement, is no small feat. I’ve worked with clients who began unable to walk, and over time, watched them return to their chosen sport, while also transforming their mindset from fearing pain to understanding and respecting it.
What do you enjoy most about working with Altaira?
The camaraderie among the team and the positive, enthusiastic atmosphere in the workplace.
How do you stay active outside of work?
I love getting out in the sunshine to play any kind of ball sport and hitting the gym with friends. I love playing, watching, and talking about sport; basically, sport in every form!
