Meet Caitlin
Meet Caitlin Mc Manus, Accredited Practising Dietitian, who brings a wealth of experience and a genuine love for food and health to the Altaira Allied Health team.
“Dietetics allows me to combine my passion for helping people improve their health with my love of food,” Caitlin shares.
Growing up as a national-level swimmer, she understands firsthand the importance of fuelling the body to support performance and recovery. At the same time, being part of a large family where food was central to celebrations highlighted the social and cultural significance of meals beyond just nutrients.
Experience That Makes a Difference
Caitlin has been practising as a Dietitian for over three years, primarily in the community, supporting clients across a diverse range of needs. She has developed particular expertise in working with people living with neurological conditions such as MS, MND, dementia, or post-stroke recovery, as well as veterans transitioning from service. She has also worked with clients managing chronic diseases, gastrointestinal conditions, women’s health, mental health, cancer, and general healthy ageing.
Caitlin is especially passionate about supporting young athletes, helping them avoid undernutrition, reduce injury risk, and develop a healthy relationship with food. Her broad experience ensures she can tailor practical, evidence-based strategies to suit each client’s lifestyle and goals.
Her Approach to Dietetics
Caitlin’s approach is highly individualised and collaborative. She listens closely to understand each client’s priorities, preferences, and challenges, then works together to set achievable, sustainable goals. “Dietetic support is practical and personalised,” Caitlin explains. “It’s not about strict diets or perfection”. She adds, “I strongly value collaboration, regularly checking in with clients about what feels realistic and achievable for them, with a focus on long-term, sustainable change rather than short-term results”.
Services and Areas of Expertise
At Altaira, Caitlin offers a wide range of services, including:
- Weight management
- Chronic disease support (diabetes, cardiovascular health, cholesterol, blood pressure)
- Gut health and inflammatory conditions
- Women’s health (PCOS, menopause, fertility)
- Sports nutrition and healthy ageing
- Disability and aged care nutrition
She uses tools such as BIA scales to monitor body composition and progress, ensuring interventions are tailored and measurable. Caitlin primarily offers individual consultations, with potential plans for group programs in the future.
Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Care
Caitlin values working alongside other health professionals to deliver coordinated care. “I prioritise clear communication to ensure all providers are aligned on realistic goals and client outcomes. GP letters are routinely sent, and I liaise via phone or email with relevant members of the client’s healthcare team as required”, she says. She is excited to contribute to Altaira’s multidisciplinary approach, helping clients achieve better health outcomes through integrated care.
Life Outside the Clinic
Outside of work, Caitlin enjoys exploring South Australia with her fiancé, long walks with her dog, occasional swims, and discovering new local restaurants. When asked about a favourite meal, she says, “It’s hard to choose, but I will never turn down a chicken pesto pasta!”
Joining Altaira
Caitlin was drawn to Altaira by the opportunity to work with a diverse client base within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment. “The allied health and wider team appear welcoming and supportive, and I am excited to work collaboratively for the benefit of clients”, she says.
