Pain education in retirement villages
We are pleased to be featured in the Summer edition of the Ageing Australia Aged Care Today Magazine.
The article, ‘Pain education in retirement villages: the role of external allied health providers,’ highlights the importance of education-led, person-centred physiotherapy in supporting older Australians to better understand and manage pain.
Altaira Allied Health has been partnering with retirement villages to deliver pain education workshops aimed at empowering older Australians to manage pain and maintain mobility. Led by Physiotherapist and Operations Manager Michael Zoumaras, the sessions provided evidence-based strategies and practical techniques for joint stiffness, back pain, and foot health.

Villages like Thorndon Park Estate and Paradise Gardens in Adelaide have welcomed the initiative, which complemented existing Active Ageing exercise classes. Village Operations Manager Tony Mercorella highlighted the value of collaborating with trusted health experts to enhance resident wellbeing and foster community engagement. Residents have also responded positively, appreciating the convenience and expert advice.
Building on this success, Altaira plans to continue similar workshops, showcasing how partnerships between healthcare providers, local government, and retirement villages strengthen communities and improve retirement living.
Thank you Ageing Australia for showcasing the value of allied health in retirement living and positive ageing.
